"A Walk to Remember" On November 2nd, students and friends from Region 15 schools participated in a Remembrance Walk at the Pomperaug High School track to raise money for cystic fibrosis research in honor of their friend, Amar Viswanath. See photos here. Amar Viswanath passed away in September 2003 from cystic fibrosis. Amar was an 8th grader from Memorial Middle School. A dedication ceremony to celebrate Amar's life began at approximately 11:30am, with the walk commencing immediately afterwards. Amar's friends read poems to Amar, twenty students sang two songs. At the end of the second song, (see below) Amar's family and friends blew bubbles into the air from basketball-shaped bubble containers. (Amar loved basketball!) The walk ended at 3:00pm. Ninety percent of the money raised will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for cystic fibrosis research. (The remaining 10 percent goes to running the C.F. Foundation).
Song: "For Amar" When I get tired It's like I was dropped into the sea You can swim your whole life And be nowhere you want to be.
Everyone gets tired And the water is so wide Then somebody comes and shows you They show you the other side.
There was a little man Barefoot and frail He took a walk down to the Ganges He took a lion by the tail.
He made a way out of no way One by one they saw the truth He was ready when they told him They said history chooses you.
CHORUS We see so far We are standing on The shoulders of giants The soldiers of love.
Then there was Amar Filled our lives with his smile Never let his fear show now Tall and firm he stood with pride.
He made a way out of no way Taught us all about life About the gift of each other With his strong and shining light.
He'd say you are the future We all have our place While we learn to love each other Look at each as human race.
So make your choices wisely Build a picture of your world Let your hearts come and show you Peace for every boy and girl
BRIDGE In the name of love In the name of love One more in the name of love.
So make your choices wisely Let your stories live and breathe Then we'll never lack for heroes In our darkest hour of need.
