STUDENTS PLAY BASKETBALL AGAINST TEACHERS AND PARENTS IN MEMORIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL BLOWOUT Proceeds from Fundraiser Earmarked for Traverse Climbing WallMarch 12, 2004, Middlebury/Southbury—Memorial Middle School student, parents, friends and teachers will be at the Pomperaug High School gymnasium tonight, March 12th from 6:00-8:00pm for their popular family night activity, the Basketball Blowout. Capping off Spirit Week at Memorial Middle School, the Basketball Blowout is an annual event where teams of students play against teams comprised of school faculty and parents. Students from 6th, 7th and 8th grade who are not on a basketball team, but who wish to play at the blowout were selected by lottery to participate in a pre-game show. After this scrimmage, the girls’ basketball team will play against the faculty and parents, followed by the boys’ basketball team. The Memorial Middle School cheerleading squad will perform a half-time show. During the school’s Spirit Week, homerooms competed with each other in a student-led canned food drive for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Also during the week, students participated in “Twin Day” during which students dressed alike and “Clash Day” during which students wore odd clothing. On Thursday, the students wore clothing emblazoned with the favorite sports team’s insignia, and on Friday, students wore their school colors, green and white, or Memorial Middle School sweatshirts. The admission fee for the Basketball Blowout (at Pomperaug High School) is $3 for adults and $2 for children. The PTO will be selling pizza, hotdogs, snacks, and beverages. All proceeds will go toward the funding of a traverse climbing wall for the Memorial Middle School gymnasium.
