School Delays and Cancellations
If schools are open, the ultimate decision to send one's child to school rests with the parents/guardians. Because of varying transportation requirements among area school districts, some school systems may remain open on certain snow days while other schools choose to close.
In the event of inclement weather or other causes (power outages, etc.) for the delayed opening or closing of school, the Superintendent or her designee will determine an appropriate and safe course of action. Generally, the decision is made and announced between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
Although every attempt is made to determine the opening status of the schools as early as possible, the Superintendent reserves the right to make that decision at anytime based on the conditions of the moment. In the case of a delayed opening, please continue to check the status of the schools, as the status could change to a closing if the weather or an emergency situation continues/worsens.
SchoolMessenger Communications
The District uses the SchoolMessenger communication system to communicate with parents/guardians. Please use the School Messenger's Contact Manager to customize the way you wish to receive school Messenger Communications. Log in to your School Messenger Account here.
Emergency Early Dismissal
In the case of an emergency early dismissal, every effort will be made to make a decision as soon as possible in order to follow the emergency early dismissal schedule, as charted above. However, a decision could be made at anytime to dismiss earlier or later than the posted schedule. If there is a chance of inclement weather and parents/guardians will not be available that day due to work or other obligations, parents/guardians should check in with those adults listed as emergency contacts and make arrangements in case an emergency early release is called.
Communication
Region 15 will post any unscheduled delays/cancellations at the top of the District and school websites.
Other methods of communication will be used for notification of school closures and delayed openings, including:
-
Region 15's Social Media sites: Facebook page and Twitter
-
SchoolMessenger: The District uses the SchoolMessenger communication system to contact parents via email, phone calls and/or texts. Communication preferences can be made through selected by parents/guardians.
