Congratulations to Mrs. Cassidy! She is 1 of 4 finalists for CT State Teacher of the Year Honors!

Mrs. LeAnn Cassidy, Region 15’s Teacher of the Year, was named a finalist for the 2018 Connecticut State Teacher of the Year honor. Cassidy has worked in Region 15 at Memorial Middle School for fifteen years, serving as a Social Studies Teacher and concurrently as an Instructional Teacher Leader for the past four years.  She will be recognized at the Region 15 Board of Education meeting scheduled for September 25, 2017.

Cassidy is one of four teachers from across the state of Connecticut who have been selected as finalists for the Connecticut State Teacher of the Year honors. The three other finalists are Erin Berthold (Wallingford), Martha Curran (Madison), and Courtney Ruggiero (Westport).

“We in Region 15 are delighted that Mrs. Cassidy has been selected as a finalist for Connecticut State Teacher of the Year honors.  Her commitment to teaching and to her students is unmatched.  She exemplifies educational excellence and represents our educators in Region 15 well,” said Regina Lemerich Botsford, Superintendent of Region 15 schools.

Members from the Connecticut State Teacher of the Year selection committee will be visiting the finalists’ schools to learn more about each finalist and their work within the greater school community.  At the conclusion of the site visits, the selection committee meets and selects The Connecticut Teacher of the Year.

The Connecticut State Teacher of the Year program is sponsored by the Connecticut State Department of Education, Talent Office and a number of corporate, organizational and individual sponsors.  The process begins with the selection of a teacher of the year in each district and continues to the national level, where the Connecticut Teacher of the Year becomes eligible for national honors.

The Teacher of the Year Program recognizes and honors teacher excellence, identifying from among many outstanding teachers of the year, one teacher to serve as a visible and vocal representative of what is best in the profession. The program celebrates excellence in teaching by recognizing teachers who have inspired a love for learning in their students and who have distinguished themselves in the profession.
