6/19/2018 - 2017-18 WCSA Superintendent Awards

Regina Lemerich Botsford, Superintendent of Region 15 Schools, named six students as the recipients of the Western Connecticut Superintendent’s Association (WCSA) Superintendent Student Award for the 2017-18 school year. 

Spencer Bigman from Memorial Middle School (MMS), Troy Gouveia from Rochambeau Middle School (RMS), Kate Goncalves from MMS, Natalie Connors from Pomperaug High School (PHS), Lissandra Marshall from PHS, and Emily Clark from RMS, are pictured with Superintendent Regina Lemerich Botsford at the June 11th, 2018 Region 15 Board of Education meeting.  The students were the recipients of the Western Connecticut Superintendent’s Association (WCSA) Superintendent Award for the 2017-18 school year.   Students were selected for their demonstration of outstanding leadership, citizenship, academic performance, participation in community service and extra curricular activities.

Rochambeau Middle School:

Troy Gouveia is an 8th grader at Rochambeau Middle School.  Troy maintains high academic standards and demonstrates leadership throughout the school community. Troy is a member of the Student Council, a member of the Cross Country team, is a Peer Tutor, and supports learning center students. Troy has been recognized as an "RMS Spotlight Student" for demonstrating respect and personal responsibility.  Outside of school, Troy is a competitive hockey player and volunteers in multiple community service activities. 

Emily Clark is an 8th grader at Rochambeau Middle School. She is a well-rounded student with high standards and a cheerful attitude. Emily has been recognized as “RMS Spotlight Student" for her personal responsibility, drive, and positive attitude.  Emily is an active participant in Student Council, National History Day, and volunteers her time serving on numerous school committees. Additionally, she has demonstrated leadership on the Cross Country team, intramurals, and as a member of the RMS chorus ensemble. She is also actively involved in service projects in her town. Emily is described as an outstanding young woman who leads by example and who demonstrates the qualities of leadership, respect, and good character.

Memorial Middle School

Spencer Bigman is an 8th grade student at Memorial Middle School who is described as a wonderful role model for his peers. He has been a Boy Scout for 7 years and is currently a volunteer for the Middlebury Fire Department. He has been actively involved in Student Government and has served as a homeroom representative for all three years at Memorial Middle School.

Kate Goncalves is an 8th grader at Memorial Middle School. She is a straight A student and a leader in the Memorial School community.  Kate has been a three-year member of Art Enrichment and the Memorial Chorus. She has also been active in Student Government and the Drama club. Outside school, Kate has been involved in Girls Scouts, her church, Main Street Ballet and competitive archery.

Pomperaug High School

Natalie Connors is a senior at Pomperaug High School who has exhibited academic excellence, athletic prowess and dedicated community service. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Science, Math, Art, and Language Societies. Natalie has been a valuable member of the Interact Club, Link Crew, Companion Rescue and the Outreach Club while being a dedicated member of the soccer and track teams for four years. She will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall.

Lissandra (Lissi) Marshall is a senior at Pomperaug High School who plans to attend Temple University in the fall.  She is the captain of the Track Team where she has been a varsity member since she was a freshman.  Each year, Lissi has been a member of the team she has broken an existing record for her event.  Lissi participates in multiple community service clubs at PHS, and maintains honors and high honors in her classes.
