The 27th Annual Region 15 Art Show featuring artwork from students in all grades from kindergarten through high school will be held on Friday, April 24 (6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) and Saturday, April 25 (10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.) in the Pomperaug High School Gymnasium. Students enrolled in the Advanced Placement art classes will have an art exhibition in the PHS All Purpose Room. The art show is an exciting way to view the progression of students’ artistic growth and to see the wide range of learning that students experience within the Region 15 Art Department.

Students were recently asked what art means to them:
“Art is an escape from the norm. It’s about self-expression and what you create you own, it’s yours and no one can take that away from you.”
“Art is a way for me to forget about the stress in my life and lets me take a break from life when things seem out of hand.”
“Art is important because it shows who you are.”
“Art lets me express who I am. The possibilities are endless.”
While every effort will be made to show artwork from as many students as possible, art is hung in venues throughout the district year-round at local public libraries, the Central Office, the Referendum Day Art Show and within the schools.
The art show will feature projected student work in the PHS all purpose room and artistic presentations created by middle and high school students involved in the History Day of Connecticut program will be on display in the Health classroom, adjacent to the gymnasium.
“Region 15 artists employ the elements and principles of design as early as Kindergarten when they create art,” said Region 15 fine arts director Jane Sarjeant. “Families can add another learning dimension to the viewing of the District Art Show by questioning students about their understanding of design and the work on display. Some dialogue can include: describe what you see in the artwork, how did the artist use the elements and principles of design, what is the mood being conveyed, and what are the strengths of the artwork.”
“On behalf of the Region 15 Art Department, I welcome and encourage all parents and students to attend the Art Show. Literally thousands of student works will be on display and it is a fun learning experience for all who attend,” said Sarjeant.
