5/8/2015 - Christopher Wermuth Named New LMES Principal

Region 15 Superintendent of Schools Regina Lemerich Botsford appointed Christopher R. Wermuth as Principal of Long Meadow Elementary School (LMES), effective July 1, 2015. His hire is the result of an extensive search process that garnered 51 applications.

“Christopher Wermuth is a professional educator and leader who is dedicated to working with students, families, and staff,” said Botsford. “He has a wealth of knowledge and experience at the elementary school level and is a trust builder with a strong commitment to finding and developing the strengths in all children.”

Since 2011, Wermuth has been the Assistant Principal at Long Lots Elementary School in Westport, Connecticut. During his four-year tenure there, he supervised and evaluated staff, and built a school community through town hall meetings and community communication. He also ran and supervised a variety of educational programs and led a number of district committees.

Prior to leading Long Lots Elementary School, he taught fourth grade for 11 years at Redding Elementary School. He has been an active member of the Tri-State Consortium, a learning organization designed to enhance student performance in high-performing districts.

Wermuth was a mentor and cooperating teacher at Redding Elementary School, advising, observing, and evaluating student- and first-year teachers. He also served as a strategic planning team co-leader for Easton-Redding-District 9 schools, focusing his work on promoting character development.

“I am excited to be joining the team of excellent students, staff and families at Long Meadow Elementary School,” said Wermuth. “I have been in education as a teacher and an administrator for 15 years, and I can't wait to continue the impressive work that is going on every day at LMES in fostering core values, nurturing a love of learning and achieving academic success. I look forward to getting to know the students, staff, and families, and starting a long and meaningful relationship!”

Wermuth attended Sacred Heart University in Fairfield where he received a 6th Year Degree in Administration and a Master of Arts in Teaching. He attended Columbia University Graduate School of Social Work, and received a Bachelor of Arts from Bard College.

Wermuth replaces former LMES Principal, Richard Gusenburg who served as interim principal during the 2014-2015 school year. Christopher Moretti served as Principal of LMES from 2009 to 2014 and is now Principal at Hawley Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  Long Meadow Elementary School serves approximately 518 students, grades pre-K to 5. The Middlebury school opened in 1997 and is one of four elementary schools in Pomperaug Regional School District #15.
