Region 15 Interim Superintendent of Schools Ralph Iassogna is pleased to announce that the Board of Education has appointed Paul Jones as Principal of Pomperaug High School. This action was taken at the July 31st, 2018 Special Meeting of the Region 15 Board of Education meeting. His start date in Region 15 is to be determined. Mr. Jones will replace Mr. Glenn Lungarini who accepted a position as the Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS).
Applicants for the position were engaged in an extensive process involving a screening committee comprised of students, teachers, parents, administrators and community members, as well as interviews with Central Administration and the Board of Education.
“I am extremely pleased to have Mr. Jones join the Region 15 team and am very appreciative of members of the screening committee who thoroughly evaluated applicants for this position and recommended such a highly qualified candidate. Throughout a series of interviews, Paul exhibited strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal qualities, a solid skill set, and a vision for growth. I am confident he will be an asset to Pomperaug High School and will be successful in working with our community and staff to continue the high standards of excellence for which Region 15 is known,” said Iassogna.
Mr. Jones is currently the Principal of Watertown High School in Watertown, CT, a position he has held for the past 4 years. Prior to his current position, he was an Assistant Principal at Newtown High School in Newtown, CT; an Assistant Principal at High Point Central High School in High Point, NC; a teacher and administrative intern at T. Wingate Andrews High School in High Point, NC; and a Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Jackson Middle School in Greensboro, NC. He brings over 8 years of administrative experience and 5 years of teaching experience to Region 15. As a teacher he was recognized as both a Rookie Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Jones is currently matriculated in a Doctoral of Education program in Instructional Leadership at Western Connecticut State University with a degree expected to be conferred in September, 2018, and holds a Master of School Administration degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, and a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Education and minor in History from University of North Carolina, UNC Greensboro.
Mr. Jones leadership successfully integrates his administrative experiences, diverse teaching experiences and personal skills. He is committed to leading staff towards student-centered decision-making, 21st century learning and in building relationships with the school community.
