8/1/2018 - New Humanities Academic Chairperson Announced (Press Release)

August 1, 2018, Middlebury/Southbury, CT – Region 15 Interim Superintendent of Schools Ralph Iassogna is pleased to announce that Arthur Blais, Jr. has been appointed to the position of Humanities Academic Chairperson (English & Social Studies) at Pomperaug High School (PHS).  This action was taken at the July 31st, 2018 Special Meeting of the Region 15 Board of Education meeting.  His position will be effective August 1st.

Mr. Blais is currently a Social Studies teacher at PHS, a position he has held for the past ten years while concurrently serving as the Dean of Discipline at PHS for the past eight years and as the Athletic Supervisor for sporting events at PHS for the past six years.  Prior to working in Region 15 he was a Social Studies teacher at Griswold High School in Griswold, CT and at Bacon Academy in Colchester, CT.

In addition to his administrative and teaching positions, he has served on the Social Studies steering committee, designed and implemented interdisciplinary curriculum, provided mentoring in differentiated instruction, and worked to develop discipline protocols and procedures.

“Mr. Blais’s educational and leadership skills at the secondary level, experience with curriculum development, and focus on preparing both students and staff with 21st century learning skills will serve him well in partnering with the English and Social Studies departments at Pomperaug High School. Thank you to the interview committee for volunteering their time in assisting with the selection of such a highly qualified candidate,” said Dr. Carrie Chiappetta, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in Region 15.

Mr. Blais has a 6th year certificate in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University, a Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education from Sacred Heart University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication, with a minor area of study in History, from Eastern Connecticut State University.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue my work as an educational leader within the Region 15 community, building on the successes of both the English and Social Studies departments and meeting the needs and interests of our students as they become global citizens,” said Mr. Blais.

Mr. Blais will replace Nicole Vibert who accepted a position as an Assistant Principal in the Farmington Public School District.  He will be responsible for overseeing the English and Social Studies departments at Pomperaug High School.
