Region 15 principals and instructional teacher leaders will be holding Elementary Parent Workshops at each of the four elementary schools to promote parental involvement and understanding, and to enhance student achievement. In addition, the Director of Student Services will hold one special education program at Pomperaug High School.
The subject matters that will be discussed are Math, Technology, “Just Right” Instruction (Providing More Challenge or More Support), Smarter Balanced Assessments, and Special Education IEPs and 504.
All parents and guardians are invited to attend any subject at any school, as their schedule allows.
Math: Learn about focus areas in each grade-level, instructional shifts and current best practices in math instruction. If you have ever asked yourself why math is taught this way, this is the workshop for you!
Technology: Nurture your child’s creativity with technology. Learn about developmentally-appropriate, healthy and educational ways to use technology and how to encourage your children to use technology in engaging, creative and educational ways.
“Just Right” Instruction: Providing More Challenge or More Support: One size does NOT fit all in the classroom. Learn how teachers design learning experiences that take into consideration the abilities and needs of each child and support and stretch our students to achieve their very best in the classroom.
Smarter Balanced Assessments: This Spring, the State of Connecticut will fully implement a new assessment instrument to help us determine how successfully our students are learning the new CT State Standards. Learn how these will be measured and communicated, and what our children will be asked to do. Explore this new assessment and try your hand at some sample problems.
Special Education IEPs and 504: A Primer for Parents: This Introduction to the IDEA and Section 504 for Parents will only be offered one time. It will be held in the PHS All Purpose Room on December 15th at 6:00pm.
