September 5, 2008

Dear Parents,

I hope you have had a wonderful summer with family and friends. Whether you traveled to the other side of the world or stayed close to home, hopefully you and your children encountered some great books.

This past June we set an expectation that every student would do two things for summer reading. First, we asked them to read at least three books this summer. Hopefully they encountered interesting characters, thought provoking problems, and fascinating information. Second, we requested that students return the Governor’s Reading Challenge form to their homeroom teachers.

The Governor’s Reading Challenge is a statewide summer reading program endorsed by the Governor of CT that encourages summer reading. Our goal is to get 100% participation. Students need to return the form to their homeroom teacher by Monday, September 8. If they have lost the form, we have a downloadable version on the Rochambeau website under Summer Reading / Summer Reading Journal 2008. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

On Friday, September 12, students at Rochambeau will be completing a task connected to their summer reading. Attached to this letter is a description of three task choices along with a letter to your child. Please review the letter and task expectations with your child. While they will be completing the task in school, there are certain things they will need to do in order to prepare. Please see the attached student letter for more details.

Thank you for your help and support with this exciting endeavor. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through e-mail jbluestein@region15.org or phone 264-2711.

                Sincerely,

               Jason Bluestein
